Kevin J. Handy concentrates his practice in Personal Injury Law, Domestic Relations Law, Consumer Fraud Law, Contract Law, DUI, and Appellate Law.
Mr. Handy is a graduate of the College of William & Mary and the Temple University School of Law, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. While attending Temple University School of Law, Mr. Handy was a staff member of the Temple Law Review. Mr. Handy also interned with the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit for the Honorable Theodore McKee.
Prior to starting Cooley & Handy, Mr. Handy was a litigation associate at Dechert LLP, one of the country’s top law firms, in its nationally acclaimed products liability group. While at Dechert LLP, Mr. Handy worked on numerous high profile personal injury trials, class action lawsuits, and appeals throughout the United States, including the successful appeal of the largest punitive damages verdict in U.S. history.
Since joining Cooley & Handy, Mr. Handy has successfully recovered substantial compensation for people injured as the result of automobile accidents, defective products, assaults and animal attacks. Mr. Handy has also recovered for individual and corporate plaintiffs in civil lawsuits involving business disputes. Among his more notable cases, Mr. Handy is currently co-lead counsel in a nationwide class action lawsuit, Byers v. Intuit, Inc., et al., in which the plaintiffs are seeking a refund of fees that taxpayers were charged to “e-file” their tax returns with the IRS. Finally, Mr. Handy devotes a substantial part of his practice to representing individuals in family law matters, including in divorces, custody and support matters, equitable distribution trials, and appeals.
In 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 Law & Politics and publishers of Philadelphia Magazine recognized Mr. Handy as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer Rising Star, based on surveys of other Pennsylvania attorneys.
